Norah is Walking Around Now!
This video was shot tonight. Today is really the first day where she has been comfortable not holding on to things as she makes her way around the house. It really blows our minds to think that yesterday she didn't have much confidence and now, she walks around and even changes direction!
Norah Eats Birthday Cake!
On Norah's birthday (May 31st), she had her very own cake. This tradition began with James, in his family, when he was 1 year old. Norah certainly makes a mess!
Norah's Birthday Present from Gpa and Gma Hemsley
A few days before her birthday on May 31st, Norah received a riding wagon from her grandparents. She was having a blast! To this day, she will still walk over and press the buttons (and yes, they still work!).

Lindquist Building
The Family Band poses in front of the Lindquist building. The water is expected to rise another 5 feet before Tuesday. The building houses a technology center, so is especially fortified with about 6 feet of sandbags.
University of Iowa Hydraulic Lab
The Hydraulic Lab is near the river. It is amazing to see the power of the river and how fast it is moving.
Chiara and Norah on the West Side
Chiara and Norah dared to cross the bridge. Here they pose for a picture on the West side of Iowa City. The water is flowing south. Normally, there is a 5 foot roll-over dam. A lot of the turbulence is caused by that and the water rushing under the bridge.
Iowa Flood 2008: Burlington St Bridge Video
The video was shot at Burlington St. Bridge in Iowa City. It is one of three bridges that divides the East side from the West. They are expecting it to be shut down tomorrow.

Surprise!!!!!!!!!!
James turned 30 on June 1, the day we were driving home from MI.
[In between Norah's party and this photo, we also attended Ethan's baptism, which was very nice, but also which I didn't take any photos of!!!!]
James was upset because he felt that his 30th birthday was going to be very uneventful and boring. Little did he know that I had planned a surprise party for him back home with all our friends! We got to our bible study location (a few minutes late as planned) and they got him good!!!! He was most surprised, and happy that we were able to celebrate his birthday after all. Amanda (front, in the pink shirt) hosted and made a fabulous apple spice cake! Thank you Amanda!
Dr. Doolittle
Here Chiara is looking like Dr. Doolittle, except that instead of being surrounded by animals, she is surrounded by babies under the age of 3.
They all had fun playing together!
Oops, should have put this one first....
Here is the cake while we are all singing "Happy Birthday to You" to Norah. She looks thoroughly confused, and almost frightened!
Sunny and Nicholas
Here are the lovebirds, Sunny and Nicholas. Sunny is a great girl, and they are a great couple. We are so happy for you, Nick!
Sunny comes from a big Polish family, too, so she is undeterred by the Jasinskis' loud nature!
Here you go, Daddy
Norah had a much more giving attitude once she had had enough cake to herself. Here she is trying to pawn some off on Daddy.
We will post a better picture of this soon--Grandpa took a great one!
Give me some, too!
Ethan is practicing his hovering skills and trying to sneak some of Norah's cake while she is distracted. He was unsuccessful....
2nd cousins
Here are Norah's 2nd cousins, Christopher and Emily. They are lots of fun, and Emily made a beautiful birthday card for Norah. They gave her lots of fun summer outdoor play stuff, like a baby pool and a sprinkler. If summer ever kicks in here in Iowa City, then maybe we will be able to use it!!!
Cake, anyone?
Norah LOVED her birthday cake!
Chiara is trying to get her to feed her some, but Norah wants it all to herself!
Ethan at Norah's party
Here is Norah's cousin Ethan--almost 5 months old! He is a lot happier now than he was when he was first born! And, I think he is bigger than Norah was at that age, but Alessia disagrees....
Norah's 1st Birthday Party
We went to Michigan for our nephew Ethan's baptism, and while we were there, we also celebrated Norah's 1st birthday. Sunny (Nicholas' girlfriend) helped decorate, and it looked great. Imagine pink and orange and yellow balloons above this vase.
Lots of people came, and Norah got her own little mini spice cake. She had lots of fun eating it, as the next pictures will show!
Here we go round the big red barn........
Norah also received this fun little singing tractor/vehicle for her birthday. She likes to hear the music that goes with it! We will post a video about this one later!
The Wheels on the Bus
Norah's favorite birthday card came from Ahpah--it is a bus with lots of animals in it. Whenever Norah sees it, she does the motions to "The Wheels on the Bus" song. It's pretty cute.
Birthday Presents
Norah is opening her birthday presents from Grandma Hemsley, which came in a big box. This is a set of books, and she seems to be pleased!
At the Ballpark 3
Here are Becky Benson, Chiara, and Norah bear watching the flying dogs, a sideshow that was more entertaining than the game!
At the Ballpark 2
Here are James and Norah. The lighting's not the greatest, but you can tell they are having a great time!!!
At the Ballpark
Here's Norah, almost 1 year old, at the Kernel's Ball Park. We went here on Memorial Day (also Samuel's birthday) with the Bensons and the Gehlbachs. It was a good time, and we had great seats. Unfortunately, the Kernels were obliterated by the other team.
Birthday Picnic 3
Here are Karen, Mike, Mindi, Chiara, and Norah. The weather is just turning nicer so we are about to go out on the playground....
Birthday Picnic 2
Here's Melissa, Kai, and Ron. Kai and Ron had fun in the creek looking for crayfish and other wildlife.
Birthday Picnic
We hosted a birthday picnic at our local park on May 24, Chiara's Birthday. Here's Norah trying to eat a raw carrot!
The day was fun--a little cold and windy, but fun. We were joined by our friends Melissa, Ron and Kai Bose, Karen Brewer, Mike Unruh, Amanda Owen, Mindi Woods, and Andy Smothers.
There was a little incident with something we now call the "Ring of Death", a piece of playground equipment at the park. Imagine a ring, with no center, that spins. It is tilted at an angle of about 20 degrees, and you can walk on it and make it spin--if you are 9 years old, that is. If you are 30, then you end up falling in a big heap and throwing your back out, which is what happened to Karen and Amanda. We are just glad they weren't seriously injured--though Karen did end up going to the ER to make sure she hadn't broken her back! Sorry Karen!
