Hi All,
Recently, I had some professional portraits of Norah and Luca taken by the same photographer who took pictures of our Samuel when he was born. That, as you may remember, was through a charity called Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep, which donates professional photos to parents who experience infant loss. The photos of Samuel were so meaningful to us, and when I saw this contest as a way to raise money for this organization (and have photos of the kids taken), I was excited.
If you feel moved to vote monetarily (no pressure!), you can donate 1$ per vote at the links posted below. If you just like the photos, and don't want to donate, that is okay, too. You can still follow the links, register your email, and you get 5 "likes" to distribute across the participants. The "likes" translate to points.
Norah and Luke are in "Region 4." The top 5 votes and points getters in each Region move on to Round 2, where the photos are judged by professionals. There are lots of prizes, like a savings bond, a trip, etc.
Personally, I think it is a great way to donate to this great charity, which I think has helped so many people like James and I. I just wanted to extend the opportunity to you, too.

Did you know?
A few recent conversations:
James: "Norah, your hair is getting so long!"
Norah (in a serious tone): "Well, I guess you should start calling me Rapunzel."
Norah: "Mom, do you know what God's last name is?"
Me: "No, what is it?"
Norah: "Jesus!"
Me: "Norah, you should put your unicorn away with your ponies."
Norah (frustratedly): "Mom, it's NOT a pony. See, it has a poke."
[I think she meant to say "a horn" but I didn't correct her!]
You will notice that she has started calling me mom, like she's a teenager! I still get "Mommy" from time to time, but she is phasing it out in favor of the much less endearing: "mom."

Snowpocalypse Subaru 2
Here's the Subaru after James and some neighbors spent and hour or so cleaning it off and shoveling the snow out from behind/around it.
You know you've had a blizzard when there are about 6 inches of fresh snow UNDER your vehicle!
Here are some other funny names I heard on Facebook for the blizzard: Blizzaster, Snowmageddon, Snowkidding, and my favorite (after Snowpocalypse): SnowbodyknowsthetroubleI'veseen.

Norah likes to eat snow; I have to watch her like a hawk because she will pick it up from anywhere (next to cars, piles that were plowed, next to bushes (yuck!)--she hasn't learned the trick of only eating untouched snow yet....

We took a stroll through the neighborhood last night; only this guy was nice enough to clear his sidewalk! You can see how high the snow is--up to Norah's waist--about 20 inches or so.

Snowpocalypse heroes
Someone in our complex needed emergency help today. The Rolling Meadows FD came out and shoveled a path from the road to the apartment, then brought a stretcher in, and later carried the sick person back to the ambulance. It took them about 1/2 an hour.
